BRIEF CAMP DESCRIPTION: Summer Circus Camp is a fun, safe, supportive and challenging environment where children explore the many skills that create the Circus Arts. Circus Day Camp allows each child to develop self-confidence, self-esteem, physical awareness and an understanding of the potential they possess. Skills taught may include: acrobatics, clowning, juggling, stilt walking, gym wheel, rolling globe, tight wire, and rolla bolla. CAMP FACILITIES: We have 5 studios located in the historic Dearborn Station, next to a park and playground where the children have daily recess weather permitting.
CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Students receive exposure to a variety of dance styles. The day begins with floor ballet, a low impact strengthening and toning class which improves flexibility and stamina. Daily classes include ballet, jazz, African or Latin dance and visual arts. At the end of each day the students go out to the park for recess and free play.
On Wednesday students go on field trips or have a special activity planned. At the end of the session students perform in a recital that showcases all of the skills they have learned over the summer.
YEAR-ROUND PROGRAMS: CMDC also offers year-round dance classes for kids starting at age 3. Classes include classical ballet, jazz, modern, contemporary, African, Latin and Hip Hop. Adult dance and exercise classes too!

Each day begins with a rigorous warm-up, followed by training and workshops in circus and aerial arts, physical theatre and drama, and dance. Students learn juggling, tumbling, static trapeze, Spanish web, tightwire, stilts, and more; take fun-filled field trips; and create and perform their very own circus-theatre performance at the end of the session! CAMP FACILITIES: Classes and camps are taught in two spaces; our Gym is a 3,000 sq/ft gymnasium space that features a 1,600 sq/ft sprung floor, and a fully rigged 24 foot ceiling. Our Studio is a 900 sq/ft classroom space that features a floating sprung White Oak dance floor, a fully rigged 14 foot ceiling, a handstand wall, conditioning ladders, and room length 12 foot mirrors for aerial work.
CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Camp is directed by Sylvia Hernandez-DiStasi. Sylvia, recently returned from a successful tour of Lookingglass Alice, is a second generation circus performer who grew up touring with various circuses, including Ringling Bros and Barnum & Bailey Circus. She also performed at The Circus World Championships in London, England. In 1990 she moved to Chicago and began her career as a circus teacher and choreographer. Sylvia is a co-founder of The Actors Gymnasium and an Artistic Associate of The Lookingglass Theatre Company. Other theater credits include The Lyric Opera of Chicago, Chicago Shakespeare Theatre, Chicago Children’s Theater, Marriott Theater, and The Steppenwolf Theatre, among others. She recently won the Illinois Theatre Association’s Award of Honor, the 3Arts award for design, and she has been nominated for six Joseph Jefferson Awards for her choreography, winning five.

CAMP FACILITIES: In addition to several expansive athletic fields, there is a spacious wooded area for recreation out of the sun. SHORTENED DAY PROGRAM for children ages 3 – 5
provides a fun-filled day led by adult counselors and includes bus transportation, daily swimming instruction, lunch, and numerous sports and activities all appropriate to the age, attention span, and energy level of three through five-year-olds.
FULL DAY PROGRAM for children ages 4 – 13
Campers swim twice a day, and exceptional Red Cross instruction is provided by trained staff in our spacious, heated pool. The fun continues on land with tennis, team sports, trampball, climbing wall, crafts, dance, archery, drama, fishing, gymnastics, martial arts, mountain biking, photography, circus arts, theme days, field trips and much more!
OPTIONAL SPECIALTY CAMPS for children ages 7 – 13
in GOLF, HORSEBACK RIDING, and TENNIS. Specialty Camp presents the unique opportunity for campers to concentrate in specific areas of interest at state-of-the-art facilities, combined with a blend of traditional camp activities.

CAMP LEADERSHIP CIT/LIT PROGRAMS: Good Times offers a special program to certain campers over the age of 12. This program helps transition eager teen campers into responsible working adults. Gophers are assistants to their assigned counselors and in no way have responsibility over any camper. A few veteran Gophers will show extraordinary qualities and will be allowed to become camp interns. Many of Good Times best counselors were at one time campers themselves. How does a camper become a Gopher? The Gopher program is by invitation only. If selected, you will receive an invitation early in January from Director Peggy. Summer of 2019 — June 10th to August 16th All Summer Plan: The best deal of the summer! 10 weeks of Fun! 49 days at 20% off the daily rate! First Camper $3,975.00 for the Summer Additional Camper $3,577.50 for the Summer.
Registration Before April 15th Registration fee is $100.00 per child. $100.00 per child deposit is due upon registration. After April 15th Registration fee is $125.00 per child. $125.00 per child deposit is due upon registration. Campers must finalize their schedule by May 15th.* Schedule changes after this date are subject to a $25 change fee. Balance is due by June 1st.
